Head Of Communications
Berlin Area, Germany
As Head of Communications, I helped Hostwriter become established as a thought leader in the field of journalism. Over the course of my two-year tenure, Hostwriter was featured in more than 50 media outlets worldwide, including industry newsletters, newspaper articles, radio features, podcasts, and trade magazines. Hostwriter is the go-to resource for information about cross-border collaborative journalism.I led the development of the organization's tagline and key messages and established a brand style guide to be used by everyone on the staff. I worked with the Community Engagement Manager to create a social media outreach strategy, to set best practices for posts on Facebook and Twitter, and to coordinate marketing campaigns for the launches of new products and services. In my regular duties, I was responsible for writing external communications – including blog posts, newsletters, press releases, website texts, marketing brochures, Medium articles, and outreach to podcasts and industry media outlets. I reviewed and copy edited other external communications, including blog posts and articles by staff members, an anthology of articles by journalists, and applications for grants and speaking engagements. I established regular, monthly tracking of KPIs, which were used to assess the effectiveness of our activities and to support our reports to funders.Additionally, I contributed to the writing or editing of grant proposals that brought in more than €200K in funding for the organization. With five part-time staff, we grew the number of journalist members on the platform by more than 58% - to more than 5500 - in about two years. In addition to my duties as Head of Communications, I also gave 16 professional development workshops – both in person and online – to more than 300 journalists from around the world.
