Upon graduation from The University of Miami, in 1960, I joined Jacobs Brothers Inc., my family’s outerwear business. We owned factories in Hoboken New Jersey. Ten years later we replaced domestic production with Asian imports. The era of domestically made outerwear had come to an end. The professional marketing of clothing had just begun and seemed to be the most assured way to increase sales. I acquired a London Fog license and quickly became the leading supplier of children’s outerwear in the country. The sale of my company in the late 80’s gave me an opportunity to pursue other interests. As Bernard Jacobs Consultants, I represented several garment and non-related business’s, acquiring a few along the way. As an in house consultant to the board of Gerber Baby foods, I presided over the divestiture of our children’s apparel companies. Ten years later, Gerber sold its last apparel company, with no delusion of shareholder equity. To this day, I retain investments in Singapore and Bali that had been acquired with my son. My years in Asia, pursuing quality production, are among my most rewarding experiences. I consider myself an expert in sourcing For the past ten years I have lived in New York as a professor of management at Berkeley College. Passing my business experiences on to aspiring entrepreneurs has been a joy. In 2013 I moved to my Miami home and resumed my teaching career at Lynn University of Boca Raton. Additionally I served as a guest lecturer at Florida Atlantic University, and the University of Miami, where I also taught a writing course at the OSHA school of adult learning. One of my passions is writing novels of which I have published two, The Muslim, and Silk. Business has changed immeasurably, and business education has not kept pace - a subject that requires discussion. I have returned to New York to resume my Bernard Jacobs Consultants, career . The stimulating pace of New York serves my writing as well.
