At biotech startup ScienceIO, I created and optimized AWS cloud-based data pipelines for the ingestion of unlabeled and semi-labeled data such as the 30M+ corpus of PubMed, clinical trials, and client document stores - all as part of a three person team, and at the direction of our CTO/COO. This data was then used to train an in-house LLM for tasks such as classification, normalization, named entity recognition, sentence completion, negation detection, and conversational agent workflows. The LLM was run on two high performance computers from Lambda Labs, which I administered using Ubuntu, and which I physically installed and managed both remotely and on-prem at our downtown Boston data center Markley at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.In addition to custom solutions for clients and business partners, the LLM produced outputs which I used to build a giant biomedical knowledge graph in Neo4j, optimized for complex data science, graph analytics and observability. I developed and deployed our prototype proof-of-concept application: an authenticated and persistent Ruby on Rails monolith that interfaced with a version of our LLM deployed to AWS with TensorFlow Serving, which differentiated our model from other state-of-the-art models available at the time. This prototype app represented our principal investor touch-point for a year, and was instrumental in securing $3M+ in seed round capital, affording us the time to develop a more polished offering using Serverless Framework, React.js and GraphQL.I also developed AWS micro-services in support of a Search product, including an ElasticSearch implementation deployed to Elastic Beanstalk, a vector search service using FAISS for K-nearest neighbors with RDS for indexing, and a Flask app for re-ranking the two, deployed as a Lambda function. Airbnb is a trusted community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world by monetizing their homes, skills and passions.I was hired to help Airbnb's in-house food program transition from a startup of 40 to a custom-built industrial kitchen in their new global headquarters, serving a growing team of thousands. Reporting to the Executive Chef, I split my time between corporate chefing and building automated systems and web apps for safety, sanitation and communication. The user base was global and the work business critical - Optimizing employee velocity, consistency and engagement; Ensuring regulatory compliance; Establishing the brand - all while reducing friction and eliminating obstacles.The more I grew and accomplished, the farther afield of the kitchen my skills were leveraged. As a Software Engineer on the the Internal Tools team, I embedded with vital departments such as Accounting, Internal Communications, and HR. There, I gathered first-hand data about which new tools and features would deliver the greatest value, while staying aligned with their business strategy. I refactored, scaled and replaced legacy software and sprawling error-prone spreadsheets, saving tens of thousands of person-hours and securing sensitive corporate data with AWS services and infrastructure.On the Diversity & Belonging team, I ran feature experiments on the core platform - Booking, Host Experience, User Profiles - and contributed code designed to fight bias, discrimination and hate speech on the platform (see Project Lighthouse at bit.ly/3Bwk6NK). This work required close collaboration with user researchers, policy experts and senior developers, and the gathering of input from leading civil rights groups and privacy organizations. This work was high impact and high visibility, and enabled me to develop new skills in the growing field of natural language processing and sentiment analysis.

UMASSMUN is the UMass Amherst Model United Nations high school debate conference, a student-run business that partnered with high school teachers to design an interactive curriculum around international relations. The business culminated in an annual four-day debate conference attended by hundreds of students and faculty, requiring significant intellectual and logistical planning.• I developed the recruitment strategy which became the published standard for other student run organizations. • Applying learnings from coursework in the Isenberg School of Management, I created the definitive customer feedback survey for the business. • The business generated its first ever year of profits when I took over, then increased those profits the following year.• Successfully headed an Executive Board of 5 students, managed a staff of 50 students and organized a conference of 400 high school students.
