As the Head of Population Health and Wellbeing at the Centre for Child Development and Education I am focused on whole-population research to inform policy and practice for children, young people and their families in the NT. My primary responsibility is to serve as the Director of Research for the NT Child and Youth Development Partnership between Menzies and the NT government. I lead a team of analysts responsible for developing and maintaining a repository of linked administrative, clinical, and research data on over 300,000 children and their parents to build the evidence-base and inform policy focused on improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people in the NT.

Bernard’s work has focused on the mental health and health service outcomes for vulnerable young people and adults, especially those at risk of suicidal behaviour.He has expertise in epidemiological, evaluative and health services research using community surveys and linked administrative data.Much of Bernard’s work has focused on improving the evidence base for Indigenous social and emotional wellbeing and enhancing capacity for prevention in community and clinical settings.Bernard is currently the Data Manager and Analyst of the Child and Youth Development Research Partnership data repository of linked administrative datasets relating to the health, education and welfare of NT children and young people. Responsible for preparation and harmonisation of researchable datasets. maintaining and describing cohort profiles, advising on study designs and methods, and managing analytics platforms. Contribute to analysis of population health and social policy research.Bernard is also responsible for a range of epidemiological and intervention research focused on building resilience and reducing the risk of young people.
