Over the past 15 years, Bernard has been a mainstay in the Canadian esports industry. Formerly ranked #1 in Canada and #51 globally for the competitive game “Super Smash Bros. Melee”, he was the first pro-am SSBM player in the country to attain formal sponsorship, and the first to place top 5 at a major tournament outside of Canada. He travelled extensively across North America as a competitor and coach, while supporting local communities through mentorship and advocacy. Bernard serves as the Senior Administrator of Esports at Humber Polytechnic, the largest college in Canada, and on the Board of Directors for Esport Canada as chairperson of post-secondary. He is the first Black Canadian to hold either role. He is also a Program Director at Just BGRAPHIC, a non-profit bringing culturally relevant arts education to students across the GTA. Previously, he worked with Epic Games' education team to deliver professional development workshops across North America in Unreal Engine, Twinmotion, and Fortnite Creative. His expertise has been recognized through appearances with Vice, BBC Radio, Cineplex, and Superchannel.Bernard is passionate about connecting youth with skills and opportunities that leverage their interest in esports, creative industries, and beyond.
