Located within the Office of the President, University Business Consulting (UBC) is an internal George Mason University management consulting practice committed to identifying and capitalizing on opportunities for innovation, turning data into insights, and increasing efficiency across the university. Using my experience in higher education, project management, analytics, and strategic planning, I work alongside George Mason clients to devise solutions that support them in reaching their goals across the university.

Teach doctoral program course Theories for Research on College Students (EDUC 8520) that coverstheoretical approaches used to study college students, competing frameworks and the contributions ofemergent approaches to understanding college students.

Provide outside expertise to improve the programs, services, and overall operations of higher education institutions and non-profit organizations. Using experience serving on non-profit organization boards and working in higher education and Student Affairs at both private and public institutions, conduct research to identify best practices, facilitate strategic planning and team building sessions, coach new to mid-level professionals, conduct departmental reviews, investigate misconduct/hazing allegations, and tailor services to meet the particular need of institutions/organizations.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, plan, execute, and implement divisional and institutional projects that advance the mission and goals of American University. Manage AU’s ongoing COVID Response and serve as a liaison of the Vice President of Student Affairs to various external organizations. Support Student Thriving and Retention initiatives, co-lead Student Affairs Communications, serve as institutional lead for the AU Votes Program, a campus-wide Civic Engagement Initiative, and manage the University Student Awards program. These responsibilities include crafting operational policies, procedures, and protocols in collaboration with various campus stakeholders, including University senior leadership; problem-solving time-sensitive and critical issues to ensure effective and efficient execution and contributing to the smooth functioning of the University.

Recruited as Interim Director to evaluate and make recommendations to improve the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership. Managed budget of $1.3M, 7 staff, and 35 student employees.

Hired to advance marketing, communications, technology services, and personnel administration. My leadership focus shifted to managing campus recreation, community engagement, and youth program offices when a long-time administrator retired. Managed a $14M budget, 41 full-time staff, 450 student employees, and 3 departments.

Taught Introduction to Leadership Studies (LDSP 1000) and provided students with an integrated learning experience that enriched understanding of inclusion, leadership, and service.

As an instructor of Student Development in Higher Education (COAD 1000), I assisted new students in being successful in their first year of college and beyond. Topics included student motivation, goal setting, learning styles, listening and note-taking skills, and career development.

Orchestrated program expansion and future-focused vision to ensure quality student life Led web communications, technology, professional development, and long-term planning functions. Served on committees related to institutional technology initiatives, web and social media presence, assessment, policy, and strategic planning. Highlights include: —Centralized web development, technology procurement, and project management across 15 departments to increase efficiency of 120 staff by establishing a new technology management structure. —Created new communications structure to better tell the story of the American University student experience. This included improved branding of Campus Life and the programs of its 15 departments and development of a consistent user experience across websites, digital signage, and social media. —Recognized students for university contributions by hiring communications coordinator who creates student videos and articles to promote their campus and community engagement. —Developed Division-centric human resources new staff orientation program to onboard new Office of Campus Life employees. —Streamlined student award nomination processes with online portal to facilitate selection committee review of nomination information. —Increased nominations and elevated prestige of Student Achievement Awards with inaugural $500 cash awards and recognition on Wall of Honor by launching annual giving campaign to fund a permanent endowment. —Conducted investigations into hazing allegations with assistance from Dean of Students and Student Conduct staff.
