Professor and Chair of Microbiology at Massey UniversityI have received my Ph.D. in microbiology from the Ruhr-University of Bochum, Germany, in 1993 and was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, from 1994 to 1996, and appointed as research group leader at the University of Münster, Germany, from 1996 to 2003. I have authored over 150 scientific papers (h-index of 48 with >6400 citations) and I'm the sole editor of 5 books while serving as editor-in-chief, editor and editorial board member for several scientific journals. His research focuses on the biosynthesis and engineering of microbial polymers and their assembly into supramolecular nanostructures. Basic discoveries are translated into novel biobased high value products for applications in medicine and industry.
