When I started my first professional engagement after university, my business life was dominated by legacy systems, terminal server sessions and Lotus Notes. Remote work was only accepted for sellers on the road via clunky VPN, heavy laptops and emails on BB or Nokia like in every other company at that time. In 2008 when the first iPhone came to market I was a serious fan of Nokia phones and like many others I could never imagine that a phone not running Symbian OS would ever be able to change the way we live and work today. (I remember that my colleagues and I found ways to bring Lotus Notes mail to our iPhone and experimented with the first cloud applications to make our work lives more mobile and flexible - with circumventing our IT Security Policies and Infrastructure. Why? Because we only looked at our own usability and freedom.)And like life sometimes is I almost accidentally got a push into IT security at about that same time. Working now with and later for Check Point on the other side of the street it became very clear to me that businesses are facing more and more risks when interacting in a new and open connected world.
