Bernell Bussue is Director, RCN (Royal College of Nursing) London Region and responsible for London’s almost 60,000 members. Bernell has a clinical background in cardio-thoracic and intensive care nursing. Early in his clinical nursing career, Bernell spent five years working in the Middle East, returning to the UK private sector and later to the NHS where he held senior positions managing surgery and orthopaedic units, before time as an Operations Manager in Child & Adolescent Mental Health.Bernell joined the RCN in 1998 as a Regional Officer before moving into the equalities and diversity area as the RCN’s Diversity Advisor followed by a further stint as a Regional Officer before taking up his Director role. Bernell has links with the International University of Nursing in St Kitts, Caribbean and with a number of International Nurse Associations. Outside of the day job he holds three Directorships with charities supporting children and young people and is an active campaigner for the rights of the individual through encouragement to engage in civic activity.Bernell lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and daughter. His interests include charity fundraising, child and youth development, outdoor pursuits and travel. Bernell makes no apology about his Christian faith because this informs his thinking and actions; he hopes that he can make a contribution however small, to reducing all forms of discrimination and intolerance both at work and socially.
