Seven years as a deal lawyer taught me how to do four things extremely well: 1. Use legal frameworks strategically to help accomplish business objectives. 2. Anticipate where things could go wrong, and mitigate those risks. 3. Forge agreement among stakeholders with differing interests and different personalities—and protect that agreement through well-drafted legal documents. 4. Manage and execute complicated and high-stakes transactions, driving complexity to completion.After honing and applying these skills for the benefit of clients across the private equity, finance, and hospitality industries, I aimed to leverage my knowledge and experience in a new context in which I could more directly make tangible impact in the world: real estate development.To that end, I recently earned a master’s degree in real estate from Cornell University. During my two years at Cornell, I learned the nuts and bolts of real estate—from how it’s developed, financed, and used, to how it impacts communities, the planet, and human lives. And as a summer associate at a real estate consulting and advisory firm, I helped it all come together in real-world projects across the property life cycle.Now, I’m seeking opportunities to contribute all that I’ve learned through work and school toward creating and sustaining vibrant, inclusive, and healthy communities.I would love to connect regarding industry trends and insights, professional development opportunities, and job openings.
