Focus of a large percentage of software development was in the area of communication protocols, real time, embedded, multi-tasking used within clients current product lines. Software ran on both Windows and UNIX systems. Clients included Cabletron, Netlink, Multilink, and Jupiter Technology. All development utilized automated testing methodology to insure functional hand offs met clients’ requirements at each milestone.Designed and developed an ATM diagnostic interface for Jupiter Technology. This allowed a user, through a command line interface, to exercise the complete diagnostic interface on client’s router ATM hardware module. Interface allowed local or remote connection allowing on and offsite evaluation of an ATM interface.Code interfaced with ATM hardware module using mapped memory and hardware interrupts. Code ran under Jupiter technology RTOS.Designed and developed SCO UNIX Streams based primary Rate ISDN Driver interface for Multilink Video Conferencing product line. Responsible for specifying and developing driver interface and integrating it into the existing product lines defined objects. Effort also required integration into the Multilink network management modules allowing the driver to be managed by the existing user interface.Designed and developed ARP and RARP protocol layers, for Netlink, providing TCP/IP address resolution enabling a client’s router product to communicate with other vendor’s routers in customer networks.Designed and developed LLC2 protocol layer, running on VxWorks OS and Intel i960 Risc processor, providing 256 concurrent client connections over one or four Frame Relay connections. On completion of this code added a Primary / Secondary SDLC Interface allowing SDLC to LLC2 conversions to be handled over this interface. Code utilized interrupt handlers to process hardware signals and pass data utilizing DMA buffer chains.

Lead contributor and managed the development and implementation of BBN’s T/10 Interactive Access Device. This device was a combined X.25 PAD and Internet Router providing TCP/IP, X.25, Async, Bisync, SDLC, and Novell IPX connectivity on an Intel based 960 based communications processor. Development effort was comprised of 35 software engineers and focused on the design, development, and integration of the operating system, network protocols, and network management interfaces into a single executable image.Lead the establishment of a software development life cycle methodology within the group. Methodology also included the use of source control tools such as Clearcase and RCS to do nightly build and automated testing on the product under development. Process lead to fewer defects found during QA cycle.Consulted on RFC 1434, Data Link Switching (DLSw) working group. DLSw was proposed standard used for forwarding LLC1 and LLC2, NetBIOS, and SDLC over a TCP/IP transport.

Lead contributor and managed the development and implementation of BBN’s network management system onto a DEC UNIX based Enterprise Management Architecture. Development effort was comprised of 28 software engineers and focused on the design, development and integration of BBN’s Presentation, Function, and Access modules into the DEC EMA environment. Development effort used object oriented design and programming (C++) to provide the required functionality. Contributed to software effort in the areas of design and code reviews and aided in design and coding when required. Provided training of the product to other sections of the company and potential customers.

Lead contributor and managed the development effort in combining five separate BBN’s communication software products onto a single common platform. This effort increased the reliability and dramatically enhanced C/10 product release times from 6 months to 3 months.Designed and managed the development of custom extensions to core C/10 product.
