I handle high-tech patent litigation, counseling, and prosecution matters, particularly fintech, blockchain, autonomous driving, digital therapeutics, and machine learning/AI. My extensive and diverse experience enables me to look at clients' patent-related problems from all angles and provide comprehensive and creative solutions.I engage in a rare combination of patent work, not only before the US Patent and Trademark Office in both pre-grant and post-grant patent matters, but also in US Federal district court in all phases of courtroom proceedings in patent infringement litigation, from filing, through claim construction (Markman) hearings, trial, and appeal. I have served as the California managing partner of two national intellectual property firms: Sughrue Mion PLLC and the former Kenyon & Kenyon LLP. I have been a frequent panelist and speaker, both locally and nationally, covering topics such as recent patent precedent and legislation, patent litigation, USPTO pre-grant and post-grant practice, patent portfolio development and management, and open source software.
