Graduate faculty of Toxicology.Principal Investigator of research grants:• Lung Deposition of Heavy Metals and Associated DNA Damage (CDC, NIOSH)• Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Exposure and DNA damage in Roofers (CDC, NIOSH)• Roof Core as a modifier of dermal exposures among hot asphalt roofers (MAP ERC, CDC, NIOSH) Work:• Designed & directed population-based research to evaluate workplace exposures.• Secondary analyses of large databases (such as NHANES).• Biomarkers of exposure to chemical mixtures and of early effects (DNA damage).• Supervised laboratory research, mentored students, postdocs, technicians, and field volunteers. • Scientific reviewer for peer-reviewed journals, federal grant panels, and professional societies. • Served as an expert for the Global Burden of Disease study.

Principal Investigator of research grants:• PAH exposure and its relationship to DNA damage in South Florida construction workers who are exposed to asphalt fumes• Simultaneous exposure to mixtures (heavy metals and PAHs) and their relationship to oxidative DNA damage (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Advanced Research Cooperation in Environmental Health ARCH)

• Investigated the relationship between biomarkers of occupational exposure to styrene and styrene oxide in human blood using mixed effects linear regression analyses (SAS System software).

Molecular biology work:• Investigated liver wound healing and the role of extra-cellular matrix proteins on the regulation of endothelin-1 (ET-1) synthesis in liver stellate cells. Processed stellate cells obtained from rat livers, conducted in vitro experiments.

• Investigated exposure - biomarker relationship in occupational populations. Developed linear regression models to assess predictors of biomarkers of exposure to PAHs and JP-8 jet fuel.• Was first to indicate a complex relationship between cigarette smoking and naphthalene metabolism in workers exposed to jet fuel.

• Certified as a clinical trainer for the Johns Hopkins Program in International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO) project. Served as a trainer of medical interns on reproductive health counseling and intra-uterine device (IUD) application.• Coursework in Epidemiology and Public Health.• Clinical work in Hematology, Social Pediatrics, Cardiology, Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, and Infectious Diseases.
