In 1988 my career truly began to take-off when I went to work for Westinghouse Electric (then the Managing & Operating Prime Contractor) for the Department of Energy (DOE) at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, NM. Intial responsibilities included inventorying/databasing over 10,000 items including both consumable and spare part items in support of site operations. Subsequently, I worked on a project team to develop an integrated financial control system including finance, accounting, procurement and inventory control. The team successfully implemented the computer based program significantly under budget/schedule. This effort saved the DOE significant costs. As a result, Westinghouse Electric awarded each team member the George Westinghouse Signature Award of Excellence. In 1996, I transferred to the Regulatory Assurance Department within the Quality Assurance Division. My initial assignment was to assist a team in establishing a program for ensuring new/revised Standards/Regulations, applicable to WIPP, were addressed and implemented. Again, the team was highly succesful in completing the assignment significantly under budget/schedule and the team members were awarded the George Westinghouse Signature Award of Excellence. From there I transferred to the Quality Assurance Department where I obtained NQA-1 Lead Auditor Certification and was responsible for evaluating compliance with the Quality Assurance Program (QAP). From there I was employed by Navarro Research & Engineering providing technical assistance to the DOE Field Office at WIPP in Carlsbad, NM. This includes evaluations of waste generator sites shipping Transuranic (TRU) waste to WIPP. Most recently, I have been providing assistance to DOE Headquarters in oversight of various DOE facilities acrross the nation.
