For over 25 years I've helped clients design, implement, and manage employer-sponsored health plans. I've watched as many health plans have struggled to control rising care costs by implementing ever changing strategy shifts. While many of these efforts focus on plan design strategy, member engagement and behavior change, and management of healthcare delivery, attention to how providers are actually billing for services continues to be a challenge. In 2024, I decided to make a slight pivot to the payment integrity side of the healthcare industry. Medical billing errors, both inadvertent and egregious, cost employers and other healthcare payers BILLIONS of dollars a year in the US. Numerous studies have shown that 80% + of medical bills contain intentional or unintentional errors. Although regulators and politicians have pushed hard for transparency of medical pricing practices, the unfortunate reality is that we have a long way to go. Something has to change. I'm excited to be part of the movement to transform the current state of our broken health care system.
