I am a steward of simplicity. In my 30 years as a transportation engineer in the A/E industry, I have learned that all successful infrastructure projects require the same simple ingredients: clear and concise communication throughout all phases of the project, a true partnership between all the stakeholders to move forward on a common agenda, and an entity to bring everything together. As with any great endeavor, coordinating even the simplest project can take monumental effort. I pride myself on my ability to align stakeholders and “connect the dots” to help our clients meet the needs of their constituents.I began my career working 15+ years with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, where I held leadership positions in construction, maintenance, project development and environmental. This varied experience developed my understanding of the power of “connecting the dots” and how each phase of a project’s development is affected by decisions made throughout the life cycle of a project. In 2006, I left the public sector to feed my entrepreneurial side. The knowledge gained from my first job transferred well to the private sector. Alongside some fantastic colleagues, we built RPM Engineers, a fast-growing engineering company that specialized in bridge design, roadway design, and construction engineering and inspections. In 2011, RPM merged with Mead & Hunt, and I learned the power of combining the talent between two firms with a similar culture of taking care of people and doing what’s right. Today, I am humbled to be serving as Board Secretary on Mead & Hunt’s Board of Directors while mentoring our transportation staff in the Southeast as a Business Unit Leader. It is a real joy to use my career and life experiences to help our talented young staff reach their true potential as they aspire to their career goals. For Mead & Hunt, leadership transition is the life blood of our living company and is why we have prospered since our inception in 1900. I also facilitate our Southeastern Marketing Group, where we focus on “connecting the dots” between all our markets as we look for growth opportunities throughout the region. I also serve on our company’s Foresight, Innovation, and Technology (FIT) initiative. With FIT, we challenge and invigorate staff to find value-based solutions for our clients through innovation and LEAN best practices. Mead & Hunt’s focus on growing initiatives and building a bright future is what drives me to still challenge and reinvent myself after 30 years in the industry.
