At SABIC Manufacturing Support Europe, I manage Site and Mega Investment Projects up to and including the Conceptual Design. A special focus is on Sustainability projects aimed at improving the Carbon Footprint of SABIC's manufacturing assets.

The department Energy & Climate Services manages the energy utilities of SABIC's petrochemical manufacturing in Europe. The Energy Technology Managers challenges the sustainability performance (energy consumption and Green House Gas emission, water use and material loss) of the assets aiming for an improvement of the performance.

SABIC has ambitious Sustainability targets for the short and long term. The Manufacturing Centre of Excellence located in Jubail leads the Manufacturing related aspects of the Sustainability Program. The main activities include annual and quarterly footprinting of energy consumption, Green House Gas emission, water consumption and material efficiency, and running a sustainability assessment program where SABIC manufacturing assets are visited and improvement opportunities developed in close cooperation with their staff.

"Het Groene Net" is local sustainable energy company in formation. Using an underground hot water pipeline system sustainable heat from the BioPower Plant Sittard and waste heat from the business parc Chemelot is used for heating and cooling in homes, offices and (small) enterprises in Sittard-Geleen, Beek and Stein.

In the Department Business Planning & Development I managed the Business Planning process of SABIC Europe's Chemicals Business Unit.A special assigment was the role of technology assessor in the Due Dilligence phase of the acquisition of Huntsman's petrochemicals activities in Teesside (Cracker and Aromatics plants).

As Program Manager I was responsible for initiation, alignment, formulation and approval of the Research & Development program in line with the business goals of SABIC's Hydrocarbon business in Europe. The Program Manager takes care of an effective and efficient execution of the R&D program, transfers projects results to the business stakeholders and is actively involved in the implementation of generated knowledge. Further the PM is the challenger of the business with respect to its technology position.

As a project leader for DSM's Hydrocarbon business I worked on various projects to optimize the 2 naphtha crackers in Geleen (Netherlands). Examples include:- Support of the start-up and further optimization of the new styrene extraction plant. This unique DSM (now: SABIC) technology extracts styrene from a crude cracker gasoline fraction and includes extractive distillation, decolorisation and distillation technology.- Cracker feedstock characterization aimed at optimizing ultimate cracker yield.- Various cracker coproduct optimization projects (benzene, C9ResinFeed (TM))- Optimization of cracker furnace operation

In my role as (Senior) Research Chemist Heterogeneous Catalysis I worked on both fundamental and applied R&D programs for DSM's businesses.Examples of projects include:- Catalytic Beckmann rearrangement of cyclohexanon oxim to caprolactam- Synthesis and Characterization of the acidity of SiO2-ZrO2 mixed oxides- Optimization of the Raney nickel catalyzed hydrogenation of succinodinitrile to 1,4 diaminobutane- First stage hydrogenation of crude pygas over nickel catalysts
