After having built up years of experience as an art director at various Amsterdam-based ad agencies (a.o. Noordervliet and Winninghof, E,C,P, Locomotiv), I started Shop Around in 1994. Shop Around is a multidisciplinary creative production agency. Shop Around specializes in (à la carte) illustration, animation, motion graphics and graphic design solutions. We thoughtfully curate solutions and offer seasoned guidance to our clients. Winning lots of prizes along the way. We are based in both Amsterdam and Curaçao (since 2024) and work with a global client list within the areas of commerce and culture.In the 30+ years that I have been active in the advertising industry, I have devised and/or produced many 'above and below the line' advertising campaigns for all kinds of brands. I also designed lots of book covers and created artwork (and directed some music videos) for (mainly) indie and rock bands and artists (such as Golden Earring, Indian Askin and Nana Adjoa).Because I have a great passion for music I launched my own cult music and art glossy 'YokoEno' and published 'Vinylize', a book about record cover design (available via Concerto Books).In 1997 I was one of the three initiators and co-organizers of the Rotterdam 'Fast Forward Heineken Dance Parade' (also known as FFWD). FFWD was an annual dance event in Rotterdam. With an average of 500,000 visitors, this event grew into the largest dance event in the Benelux. In 2007 I sold my shares and left the organization.In 2021, my wife Vief and I (both being non-musicians) made an album with Indie cover versions of Dutch Pop and Rock classics. For this project, we translated all the lyrics via Google Translate. And we kept the literal translation even if the translation didn't make any sense at all. We titled the record: 'Bert & Vief’s Google Translate Hits'. Some of the original artists (Barry Hay of Golden Earring Loïs, Lane, Gruppo Sportivo a.o.) liked our versions of their songs so much that they had a cameo on our version of their song. With this company we focus exclusively on making explainer videos.
