Every four weeks I'd come in at the detox clinic for four hours to help out the staff where necessary and lend the clients an ear if they needed to get something of their chest.I'd start out joining the morning coffee to get a feel of the group dynamic of the day. After this I talk to clients to get to know them or help out with their daily chores. Before lunch I'd join the clients on their walk, getting some fresh air and relax a bit. This also provided the staff the opportunity to work on reporting, else they would have been the ones joining the walk.Upon returning to the clinic I'd help them clients prepare for lunch, join them at lunch and help cleaning up afterwards. Finally I'd report back to the staff the things I've learned, experienced and heard from the clients so they are aware of any tensions in the group or specific client needs.Working at the clinic has been a meaningful experience. It has helped me balance out my priorities and look past someone's exterior appearance. Anyone can become victim of an addiction as we don't always control what cards we get dealt.
