The Green & Healthy Homes Initiative (GHHI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity with the vision of advancing the social determinants of health and racial equity through healthy housing. With an emphasis on black and brown communities, GHHI delivers improved health, economic and social outcomes. GHHI supports housing, environmental health, and energy efficiency services for families in communities around the country, as well as conducting direct services in Maryland. GHHI’s delivery model is based on its data-driven philosophy that public and private social investments are optimized and social program outcomes are maximized when the energy, health, and safety needs of an occupied home are addressed comprehensively, efficiently, and simultaneously.As the Vice President of State and Local Strategic Services, Bert supports GHHI staff around the country as they deliver technical assistance, advance national and local initiatives, and develop emerging partner sites as GHHI works to scale the organization's integrated model.

Casey Foundation’s 5-year, $24 million Learn and Earn to Achieve Potential (LEAP) Social Innovation Fund to demonstrate how youth involved in child welfare and juvenile justice systems can successfully attain post-secondary credentials in 10 sites around the country.* Worked with the West Elmwood Housing Development Corporation to plan and establish the organization's "2 Generation" Dunamis Synergy Initiative to support pregnant and expectant teens and young parents to complete high school and college. Also provided planning and grant writing support to establish a new Health Equity Zone in Providence to reduce health related disparities. Raised $2.4 million over a 24 month period for both initiatives.* Raised over $1.2 million from multiple sources to help the Housing Network of Rhode Island and NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley establish a new statewide tenant education/eviction prevention initiative to reduce affordable housing provider costs and prevent homelessness. * Secured seed funding allowing the Housing Network of Rhode Island to establish a statewide collective impact initiative to increase the supply of affordable housing in the State.* Served as interim Executive Director for the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless, stabilizing the organization after a period of extended executive transition and returned a year later to complete a new strategic plan.
