As an experienced mucosal immunologist my research group investigates host-pathogen interactions with a main focus on enterotoxigenic E. coli and the intestinal immune system in a piglet model. The gained insights are used to accelerate the design of oral vaccine strategies applicable for mass vaccination in veterinary and human medicine. In that context, we are investigating aminopeptidase N-mediated transport across the gut epithelium to deliver vaccines to the gut immune system. To advance this research, we are developing novel tools, including a recombinant antibody production platform and gut organoids.
