At the start of my career I was volunteering, and through my voluntary position, A human resource employee for the University of California, Merced offered me a position at the University, and I immediately said yes and the rest is history. I got involved with our union AFSCME 3299, quickly rose through the ranks first, I became a shop steward, then I was elected to the executive board of Afscme our union, started enforcing a contract, then I left the University for an organizing position but before I left a University, I was part of a team that won a historical contract worth $1 billion , then got elected city council in Merced for district 3, after that, I was appointed Mayor pro temporal for the city of Merced.
