The Swiss Group for Mass Spectrometry is a society that furthers interactions between scientists working in the various fields of mass spectrometry, doing basic research from gas phase ion chemistry to life sciences, in academia, industry and regulation.

MoBiAS provides the scientific know-how for the analysis of organic, inorganic and biological molecules and support the routine analysis of compounds produced during the course of research at the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences.

During my tenure at Novartis I was responsible for leading a team that dealt with early target discovery and Mode of Action determination of lead candidates by Mass Spectrometry based proteomics technique including: Chemical proteomics, Phospho proteomics, Quantitative proteomics of affinity pulldown experiments.Also I lead the efforts with my fantastic team to establish Mass Cytometry (CyTOF), both classical and imaging. At a later stage I initiate the efforts for single cell sequencing.

At my position as project team leader I have taken on a number of challenges and responsibilities. The most recent is one of which I am particularly excited. My team at Novartis is exploring multiparametric single cell analysis by Mass Cytometry. We are currently looking at the contribution of various cell types, by looking at signalling networkds and functional readouts. Area's in which we deploy this cutting edge technology is Cancer Research and in the domain of Regenerative Medicine and immunology. My previous assignments at Novartis dealt with quantitative proteomics for target identificaiton (classical, phospho or chemical proteomics), kinase deorphanisation or substrate finding.

During my stint at the functional genomics center, I setup the high resolution mass spectrometry platforms and collaborated with many scientist on a wide variety of projects. My work at the FGCZ resulted in over 20 peer reviewed publications.

Developing novel analysis tools for the structural elucidation of conotoxins

I worked in the group of Dr. Mike Fainzilber on finding putative cyteine codon binding proteins.
