Hello! I'm Bess McCoy, a strategic communication leader dedicated to protecting and stewarding one of our most vital resources—water. As the Manager of Public Affairs at the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD), I lead a talented team tasked with keeping 1.3 million customers, 1,000 employees, and 87 municipalities informed and engaged. With more than a decade of experience in strategic communications, media relations, and crisis management, I am passionate about engaging my community in essential services. My efforts have not only garnered significant public participation but have also translated into tangible community benefits. For example, in 2024, my team's education campaign led to the passage of two major ballot measures including record voter support for Proposition W and the passage of Proposition S, which voters previously rejected. My commitment to water stewardship extends beyond local efforts; as Co-chair of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies’ Communications Committee, I collaborate with professionals nationwide to shape national clean water communication strategy.Outside of work, I volunteer with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri's Mariner program, teaching girls to love our natural water resources while helping them grow into future women leaders. My commitment to the community is further demonstrated through my involvement with the St. Louis Mardi Gras Foundation, where I leverage my skills to promote one of our city's largest celebrations, significantly boosting its local and national visibility.I am motivated by the challenges of conveying complex information in ways that are accessible and engaging, and I know that my work impacts nearly every resident and business in St. Louis. I’m always eager to connect with like-minded professionals who are committed to making a difference in their communities. Learn more about my work and projects at bessmccoy.com.
