Managing a team of staff across Wales who provide support to our operational teams by providing learning and development opportunities to staff and 2500 volunteers. Supporting the managers who work with and manage volunteers to ensure a good and professional experience for all volunteers. As Project Manager I was responsible for planning for, recruiting staff and setting up a project to support vulnerable migrants (mainly from the A8 countries) in Wrexham. There are large numbers of migrant workers or would-be workers in the area as the town is home of one of the largest industrial estates in Europe. Support was provided by providing information, signposting and in particular helping to find safe sleeping environments for those who were street homeless and had no recourse to… Show more As Project Manager I was responsible for planning for, recruiting staff and setting up a project to support vulnerable migrants (mainly from the A8 countries) in Wrexham. There are large numbers of migrant workers or would-be workers in the area as the town is home of one of the largest industrial estates in Europe. Support was provided by providing information, signposting and in particular helping to find safe sleeping environments for those who were street homeless and had no recourse to public funds so were not eligible for help from the local authority. This project and learning about issues related to migrant workers was a very steep learning curve. During the 2 years of funding and even after that our learning has helped to guide and benefit others who were venturing into similar work. The job out of necessity involved a large amount of networking with a diverse range of organisations from the Community Safety police to the Welsh Refugee Council and of course many homeless charities and the Home Office. The project was a 2 year pilot and after all avenues for further funding were exhausted it had to close. Show less
