The ABO is an independent, not-for-profit organization and the nation's oldest medical specialty certifying board, founded in 1916. Our mission is to serve the public by improving the quality of ophthalmic practice through a process of certification and Maintenance of Certification that fosters excellence and encourages continual learning. The Administrator, in partnership with the Executive Director and the staff, is responsible for the operational success of the ABO. At the direction of the Board, together, the Executive Director and the Administrator assure the accomplishment of the organization’s mission and vision.In this position, I manage operations in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board and provide leadership that enables the Executive Director and the Board to carry out its governance functions.
