A graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, (B.F.A. Drama) Beth Arentsen has over twenty years of experience teaching music and dramatic arts to children and teens. Beth is a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher who has created engaging arts programming for award winning cultural centers, arts organizations and independent schools. Her goal is to to build confidence while inspiring a love of the performing arts in all of her students. Beth brings years of stage and recording experience to her teaching studio. She is skilled with helping the young performer develop proper technique while bringing out his or her natural ability. As a performer Beth has enjoyed success as both an actor and singer-songwriter. She has appeared in film and television, Off-Broadway productions and national tours including “Bible Women” written and directed by Elizabeth Swados and musically directed by Michael Friedman (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). With advice from Liz to focus on her songwriting, Beth self-produced a demo which landed her a record deal with the Chicago indie label NoVo Records. As the front woman and co-writer of the newly formed electro-funk collective, P-1, Beth and her band released two nationally-distributed albums (Step through NoVo/Lightyear/WEA and Power through NoVo/Ryko). The band had immediate success on commercial and satellite radio, music placements in film and television and performed to sold-out audiences in premier national venues. Beth has performed as a solo artist for intimate audiences in New York at Joe’s Pub (Public Theater) Merkin Concert Hall, S.O.B.’s, the John Drew Theater (Guild Hall) among other national venues, charity events and music festivals, including Nona Hendryx’s (Labelle) Hopestock tour. She is currently writing new music and teaching voice and drama.
