Brass for Africa is a UK-based charity that supports thousands of marginalised children and young people in Sub-Saharan Africa to transform their lives, driving social impact and social justice through music. Working closely with the Director of Development, I support the development of the organisation to ensure the successful implementation of the Brass for Africa 2023-28 Strategy. This includes reviewing and updating policy and practice, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the funding landscape, raising funds and helping to grow the team so that Brass for Africa is in a strong position meet the challenges of the exciting period ahead.

I returned to GMAC Film to Project Manage an 18 month filmmaking apprenticeship for 10 young filmmakers from Scotland's BAME communities. I then worked closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop and deliver a new programme for young people and independent filmmakers from under-represented communities. My job title changed from Project Manager to Creative Director during a company restructure in 2016/17. The role included all aspects of company and project development including project research and development, strategic development, fundraising, collaboration and partnership development, marketing development, recruitment of staff and participants, team building and management, budget management, evaluation and reporting, governance, networking and events. This also included an overhaul of our membership structure, website and social media and updating policies and practices in response to changes in the digital, economic and legal landscape.

I joined the team at GMAC Film to set up and deliver the GMAC 2nd Unit youth and community programme and to develop and implement GMAC's diversity strategy. My duties included project management, executive producing and producing short films within a community context, developing and delivering training initiatives, screenings and festivals, managing and supporting freelance staff, volunteers and participants, sourcing and engaging new groups and audiences, developing and managing partnerships across Scotland, writing and managing budgets, evaluating and reporting to funders and stakeholders including the director and board of GMAC Film.
