I am a nature educator, writer, and certified Forest Therapy Guide. I have over 14 years of experience teaching discovery-based nature education programs for youth and adults utilizing engaging communication and interpretive techniques. I also work with a volunteer steward group restoring prairie and woodland ecosystems and lead students and youth volunteers on natural areas restoration projects. As a Forest Therapy Guide, I lead groups and individuals on walks inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku (“forest bathing”), which promotes health, wholeness and well-being through guided immersion in forests and other natural environments. The guiding purpose behind my work is to foster a sense of understanding, connectedness, and reciprocity between people and the natural world. In addition to my affinity for nature, I’m fascinated by the creative process and enjoy exploring its various manifestations - including writing, visual arts, music, and performing arts - either as a participant or an observer. Before entering the field of nature education, I worked professionally as a writer/editor. I still enjoy writing freelance and personal projects, which have been published in literary journals and various print and online publications.
