Profile bio

About Beth Bryan

I believe museum demographics can be broadened through small, yet effective changes in a museum's practices without forfeiting necessary funding. I enjoy projects and programmes that target under-represented audiences to demonstrate how museums can enact positive change in society. Museum audiences and their relationship with the museum fascinate me. Audience research plays an important role in understanding and the needs of museum audiences and fulfilling mission statements. Both quantitative and qualitative evaluations are required in combination with improved public relations. I am always interested in conducting evaluations for museum and am keen to gain wider experience in the sector. My practical skills and experience stem from a wide range of institutions and departments within the museum sector and continue to expand them with each new position. Currently at The British Museum, I am undertaking an evaluation of one of our community engagement programmes to assess participant experience and how participation has impacted relationship with the Museum. I hold a master's degree in Museum Studies from University College London and an undergraduate degree in History and a minor in Classical Civilisations from the University of Michigan. My M.A. dissertation combines my two passions: prison reform and museum relationships. I explored museum partnerships with prisons and inmate participation in exhibitions that display their art. I hope to continue working with this under-targeted audience in the future and measure the social impacts of these engagements.
