Housing Specialist for the Dept. of Human Services Office of Social Programs focused on the Dept’s efforts to support de-institutionalization and diversions from institutional setting for persons with disabilities.

The goal of the Regional Housing Coordinator (RHC) program is to improve or create housing choice for people of regardless of age or disability by improving communication and information flow between the affordable housing community and service providers. The RHC program is a collaborative effort between DPW/PDA Office of Long-term Living, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and the Self-Determination Housing Project.

I performed neighborhood planning tasks such as creating neighborhood and specialized maps, worked with community groups, and developed detailed neighborhood profiles. Contributed to the development of two neighborhood revitalization plans and participated in their implementation. Strategically planned and reviewed proposed demolition and rehabilitation sites for housing programs. Conducted Environmental Reviews for federally funded projects undertaken by the City of Harrisburg, its sub-recipients, and the Harrisburg Housing Authority. Worked with other City staff and residents regarding new Zoning Code development, historic preservation, accessibility, and policy issues. I developed Historic District Design and Preservation Guidelines, Accessibility Guidelines for Historic Commercial Buildings, and HARB Guidelines for the Use of Alternative Materials in Replacing Historic Features in Harrisburg. I trained new staff on internal processes, database use, and administration.I administered the City of Harrisburg Historic Architectural Review Board (HARB). Wrote case reports, minutes, and resolutions for all applications. Provided technical assistance to property owners on maintaining and restoring historic property, the HARB review process, and historic district building permits. Gave periodic presentations to Harrisburg City Council and subcommittees. Developed tools to aid the public in understanding historic designation and historic property stewardship.
