My name is Beth Getman, and I am the new strings teacher for Milwaukee Park Recreation. I specialize in strings education, as a professional performer on violin and viola. My teaching style is characterized by crafting creative solutions to their playing problems, using my many years of study and teaching along with attending workshops. I have had success in getting students to perform well at Wisconsin School Music Association solo and ensemble, audition for youth orchestras, and to simply be lifelong learners. My students’ ages have ranged from age two to age eighty. Currently, I am employed by the Milwaukee Park and Recreation as a music teacher, and by the Greendale Conservatory of Music as a strings and piano teacher. My most recent employment was with the Milwaukee Public Schools as a general music teacher. I have also taught orchestra education in the public schools in Wisconsin. I also had a large private music studio in Madison Wisconsin where I taught violin, viola and piano in individual lessons. I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Luther College in violin and viola performance. I hold a certificate of education in general music and instrumental music (emphasis on string education) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. My teachers have been David Becker, James Peterson, and Everett Goodwin. I am an active performer in local orchestras on both violin and viola. I also am active in a working string quartet. My personal philosophy is that music is here to be enjoyed by all ages—whether in performance or as a listener. The Saturday morning program was built up by my excellent predecessor, Ms. Brittany Johnson. I hope to continue her tradition of excellence. I look forward to be your teacher.
