As the library manager, I was responsible for the day-to-day running of the school library. I performed customer service duties, both for students and staff, responding to enquiries and dealing with loans, returns and holds.I was in charge of handling the budget, documenting all financial requisitions and invoices through our financial management software, and was responsible for acquiring new materials for users, considering what would best reflect the school community. I also liaised with teaching staff to provide information and resources to support their work.I introduced new initiatives relating to social media provision to make the library more accessible to an increasingly online user base; this involved developing an Instagram profile for the library, drafting up the necessary documentation and guidelines for approval by the Headteacher.I also opened up the library management software (LMS) to provide students with their own log-in credentials, allowing them to take more control over their library usage and access the catalogue from home, making reading lists, writing reviews and placing reservations themselves. This required me to become more acquainted with the LMS, making full use of all its features to benefit users. I also performed frequent data-related tasks in the LMS, including data input for new resources and data cleaning.I line-managed the library assistant, which allowed me to put managerial theory into practice to motivate and facilitate the work of my colleague.Additionally, I led some library sessions with KS3 and KS4 classes, educating them on aspects of library use such as the Accelerated Reader platform and the library software. With the Accelerated Reader platform, I used the admin account to create and generate various reports using user data, to demonstrate its impact and justify its continued use.

I worked with a recruitment agency to fill various temporary roles in schools in the Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield areas. The majority of this time was spent as a cover supervisor, teaching various classes while the permanent teacher was absent. This involved using a variety of skills, such as classroom management and communication, and a high degree of adaptability. I also acted as a teaching assistant one-on-one to pupils of different ages, forming rapports with students in a short amount of time to help them understand and complete the work set. Additionally, I invigilated several official GCSE exams, both in large venues and in classrooms with individual students.

I spent 4 years living and working in Gyeongju, Korea, teaching English full-time at two local elementary schools. I taught 20 lessons a week for grades 3 to 6, which I planned and created materials for. I also led two English after-school sessions, one of which was for teachers, and I prepared and delivered English programmes during school holidays.As the only foreign member of staff, I liaised with Korean co-workers to deliver English lessons to children starting to learn the language. This greatly developed my communication and explanation skills; I had to find inventive and engaging ways of explaining concepts to the students, as well as making myself understood to staff.Working in a country and culture so different to my own also demonstrated my resilience; adjusting to a different language and way of life was often challenging, but gave me an increased understanding and sensitivity towards other cultures. I also had to be adaptable; halfway through my time in Korea, the COVID-19 pandemic began. I had to change how I delivered lessons in response, developing my online teaching skills rapidly; I made countless educational videos for the students for them to use when learning at home. Additionally, I learned some Korean while living there.

I worked full-time in the nursery department over the Christmas and clearance period. I advised customers on products such as prams, furniture, toys, and feeding equipment, which required me to learn a lot about these areas in a short space of time and apply this knowledge immediately. I also liaised with customers and suppliers over email and telephone and helped organise repairs for customers where necessary. I was offered a permanent position within the branch upon completion of this contract, but declined due to other opportunities.

To support my MA studies, I worked part-time in the department's box office, selling tickets to university staff and students as well as members of the public. I spoke to customers both in person and over the telephone and deal with emails, using the Ticketsolve system to maintain a database of clients and to allocate and sell tickets. I was also responsible for maintaining financial reports, completing a daily report of takings, and also for producing a more comprehensive weekly report and ensuring that everything balanced correctly. I also have experience using the ProVenue Databox system.

I worked in the box office in York city centre before and during the festival, selling tickets and advising customers on what shows would be best suited to them. I also dealt with customer feedback and complaints, forwarding this on to the appropriate people where necessary. As with the University of York box office, I sold tickets through Ticketsolve, which helped to further consolidate my knowledge of this system.
