Working in hospitality allowed me to build crucial skills to help me excel in various work environments. I worked various hours in the day and evening to ensure the pub ran in a suitable manner and provided customers with an enjoyable experience. Some of my relevant roles included taking bookings, checking in customers, creating an enjoyable environment, checking and updating stocks, upselling products, taking payments, and always responding to customers’ needs. These roles improved my ability to work independently, in a team, and gave me personal responsibilities in the workplace. Another important role involved regularly understanding my professional development to continuously provide high levels of customer service. To enable work of high standards I always ensured the environment I worked in was clean, tidy, and organised, which also resulted in creating an enjoyable environment for my colleagues to work in. Working in hospitality allowed me to work in a fast-paced environment whilst still meeting customers’ needs to the highest expectations.

Volunteering in a nursery helped me develop my communication skills with people of all ages. I was responsible for creating a safe, clean, and engaging environment for the children, as well as helping them develop important skills. Attention to detail and organisation was very important in this role. For example, certain children had food allergies so ensuring the correct foods were provided helped avoid any issues. Regularly updating parents allowed me to build a friendly rapport with service users, allowing me to update parents and staff members of any changes of care. This also meant that the nursery could run at the highest standards. Finally, I had personal responsibilities to keep informed and up to date with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. My roles within a nursery allowed me to adapt to working with people of various ages and be trusted to be responsible for the care of young people. This role also taught me the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace
