I have been a veterinarian for 20 years, working as an associate, industry vet, and practice owner. I am passionate about great leadership, effective communication, and problem solving. Before becoming a veterinarian, I worked for several years in economic and community development. My experience includes small business development and land use planning with several Arizona tribes, capacity building with Detroit community organizations, and benefit-cost analysis of several large-scale development projects in the Pacific NW. I sold my veterinary practice in 2013 to co-found The Detroit Creativity Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to empower and inspire Detroit’s young people through improvisation, an art form that fosters confidence and teaches a creative and collaborative approach to life. We launched our flagship program, The Improv Project, in 2012 with 100 students and now serve more than 1300 youth annually. When not engaged in veterinary medicine or The Detroit Creativity Project, I study landscape design that preserves and restores watershed health.
