Beth H. is a Professional Writer at Gadget Review. Colleagues describe her as "Beth Huston has been the Head of Marketing at Riza Press since June 2019. As an emerging independent publishing press in May 2019, Riza did not have a wide audience or social media platform by the time I crossed paths with Beth. From the moment I met Beth, she displayed such passion and enthusiasm for marketing Riza Press that it was only natural to add her to my team. Beth has been absolutely instrumental in getting Riza to where it is today. Right off the bat, Beth had strategic… Show more" and "I hired Beth Huston to edit a book published through Riza Press (of which I am the founder) in 2019. While she has completed one large-scale editing project with me to date, she is a permanent addition to my team, and will be my go-to for many editing projects to come. Beth is incredibly skilled as an editor. She displayed great attention to detail, and provided not only grammatical and structural edits but provided a depth of insight into the flow and themes of the pieces. In order to… Show more"

Head Of MarketingRiza Press Jan 2020 - Aug 2021I am responsible for composing marketing material following the brand identity of Riza Press. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:◾ Composing campaigns◾ Influencer outreach◾ Creating organizational systems◾ Writing campaign copy◾ Making contact with contributors -
EditorRiza Press Sep 2019 - Jan 2020Once submissions for publication began to increase, Riza Press brought me on as an Editor. I am expected to thoroughly proofread assigned submissions before publication. While the Editor in Chief will read through submission, it is expected that I have perfected the piece prior to this final check. My job is not only to help artists refine their work, however. I focus on editing in a way that is helpful rather than critical. Being sensitive to the artistic process of each client comes first and foremost. Gentle direction and understanding of that process are key. -
FounderPen & Pendulum Apr 2019 - Jul 2020A multi-platform organization which aims to shine a light on indie authors. Pen & Pendulum brings light to indie artists across multiple platforms. We offer the following:◾ Free promotion◾ Author spotlights◾ Weekly prompt contests◾ Community support◾ Giveaways... and more! This booming community of artists found it's humble roots as my poetry account. However, once I saw the traction it was gaining I decided to do something new. I never intended this little account to become what it is. I'm just happy I have a place to spread some light and inspire community in my fellow artists. Pen & Pendulum now exists across multiple channels. Not all of them are active, but I have a great team working with me to change that. -

GroomThree Winds Farm Apr 2017 - Sep 2017Newfields, New HampshireI was tasked with ensuring the well-being of five horses at a small, private barn. This included AM feeding, grooming, turn-out, mucking, and more. Having personal accountability was crucial as I was the only one reporting to the barn until much later in the evening. This was a labor-intensive job. However, it also required quick thinking on my feet to avoid accidents. Working with these large, sensitive animals means that anything can happen at any time. During emergencies, I was required to be in contact with the vet and to make decisions on the ground as I judged appropriate. One horse in particular who required an experienced handler due to aggressive behaviors.

Team LeaderPlanned Parenthood Federation Of America Mar 2016 - Nov 2016Manchester, New HampshireAs a Team Lead, I was charged with providing mentoring and support to those in my daily group. I trained new canvassers on how to successfully go cold knocking. Working with what is considered a "controversial" organization while addressing people so directly presented a major challenge. However, I overcame them as they came and, with my prior experience, managed to become a leader in collecting pledge cards from voting citizens.I view canvassing as a way to expand your skillset in several ways. Cold reading and general awareness were required, especially while in potentially dangerous or remote locations. It also pushes you to overcome any form of social anxiety and to cultivate an attitude of confidence. This carries through to every area in your life. I will forever cherish the relationships I made, the in-depth talks I had with voters, and the incredible learning experiences I was offered. -
Campus DirectorGeneration Opportunity Sep 2013 - Mar 2014Henniker, New HampshireAs the campus director, I was expected to manage and run a group of 30 volunteers. We performed cold calling for political surveys and quickly became one of the most successful operations in the region. My duties included:◾ Distributing phones for calling◾ Managing all paperwork◾ Spreading awareness of GO on campus◾ Recruiting of volunteers◾ Disciplinary action due to breaking policy◾ Attending political events as a representative of GO◾ Training and mentoring less experienced volunteersAt this point, my time was spent less on the phones and more on ensuring the smooth operation of call sessions. -
Sports JournalistNew England College Feb 2013 - Jun 2013Henniker, New HampshireA sports journal that offered internships through NEC. This was strictly a senior-level class and, as a second-semester freshman, I had to receive special permission from the department head and both professors. As an intern, I was required to attend all classes without exception. This position required marketing since we went out to give cold pitches to businesses in the area. We were responsible for giving pitches on fresh angles and interviewing experts in the area.As a twist, I chose Equestrian sports in New Hampshire. This involved interviewing riders in the area and reporting on different events that happen yearly. The role was highly involved and incredibly challenging. -
Student CallerNew England College Nov 2012 - May 2013Henniker, New HampshireConsidered the most sough-after job on campus, this was one of the few work-study programs which required an intensive interview process. We were tasked with calling alumni of NEC in order to further fundraising efforts.Having a strong phone presence was paramount to success in this role, alongside strong interpersonal skills. The largest donation I secured was for $3,000, which was double the donation committed by that donor the previous year. -
Writing Center SecretaryNew England College Oct 2012 - Dec 2012Henniker, New HampshireMy time at the Writing Center was spent booking appointments, answering phone calls, and enforcing library rules for that floor. I greeted students and faculty as the first point of contact. Even with my short quickly became very well acquainted with the programs used to schedule tutoring sessions. -
CanvasserGrassroots Campaigns Aug 2012 - Nov 2012Concord, New HampshireI entered this role part-time in college to further support the community at large. Primarily, I was tasked with traveling assigned routes and engaging voting citizens in conversation. This required a knowledge of psychology and the ability to successfully initiate cold conversations. Situational awareness and time management were key when going door-to-door and spreading awareness on the presidential election. My responsibilities included, but were not limited to, the following:⚬ Meeting my weekly KPIs for pledge cards. These were signed by voters as an agreement to vote for our candidate.⚬ Raising awareness of the upcoming election.⚬ Engaging in candid dialogue with voters to better understand the community.⚬ Informing voters on their rights, as well as the locations in their town for voting.⚬ Educating citizens on local, national, and international issues.
