Essentially we are swapping the location of a physical Counselling room, to the Great Outdoors. Having Outdoor Therapy can help on many levels; the rhythmic pattern of walking emulates the body's natural rhythm, allowing you to connect to yourself as a whole, rather than focus on the part of you that is the loudest or most demanding of your attention. For example: feeling anxious about a specific life event can prompt us to focus on the anxiety, rather than the event itself. Therefore the opportunity to explore, understand and maybe make positive changes with the problem as a whole is lost, and can increase your anxiety.Being outdoors with no purpose other than focussing on self, for many, is a break from the norm. Freeing up the creative part of the brain that helps us to listen to our thoughts and notice destructive and harmful patterns; by walking in nature, we are getting out of the habitual thought grooves that keep us in a psychologically harmful place. The Outdoor Counselling process offers you the opportunity to be away from distractions and to separate you from your problems; assisting you to examine your problem/challenge from a different perspective, therefore gaining clarity and seeing a way forward.
