180 Day Substitute Teacher
CurrentI began as a day-to-day substitute for the Mt Carmel Area School District. In 2017 I became a 180-day substitute meaning that I show up to school every day regardless if there is a spot for me to fill or not. I report each day to the office to get the assignment I will have for the day. I then report to that classroom and read the instructions left by the teacher for their students. I have subbed in all grades from Kindergarten thru the 12th grade. I have been assigned to all classrooms including reg ed, learning support, autistic support, life skills, and in a partial-hospitalization program. While at the partial hospitalization program, I was responsible for developing lesson plans for approx. 12 students in grades K-12. When school went virtual due to COVD in March 2020, I contacted families of our students to check on their wellbeing and to see if they needed assistance obtaining services. Attended IEP meetings as scheduled when I filled in for teachers on a longer basis. Assisted students with PSSA and the Keystone tests as needed and as explained in the training video. I have also helped when other school personnel were unable to work for various reasons such as front desk/security and classroom aid. I have also worked during the summer with the Special Education department for the Extended School Year. While working during the summers I was assigned to a classroom and worked with students with varying developmental disabilities in accordance with their IEPs.
