As an advocate of advancing the state of Iowa, this position showcased my dedicated to building a strong STEM education foundation for all Iowans.

Southwestern Community College, Creston, Ia

Buena Vista University operates a regional site in Creston, Iowa on the campus of Southwestern Community College. In this position, my duties included overseeing the delivery of academic programs, hiring and evaluation of faculty, leading curriculum updates and changes, supervising site staff within the region, and coordinating articulation agreements. The position allowed me to travel around the region to seek new opportunities of program development with community industries and partners and assist with implementation, working collaboratively with appropriate BVU personnel. As the regional director, it was my responsibility to meet with students, recruit students, and develop schedules for all students to complete within their program time. In addition to working with students' academic success, I was able to learn the financial aid process, business office procedures, and develop regional marketing to grow enrollment.In addition to serving as a Regional Director, I fulfilled the role of the Education Coordinator at the Creston site located on the campus of Southwestern Community College. Duties in this position included advising students from the point of interest to graduation, maintenance of student and departmental records, placement and coordination of student teachers, recruitment of new students, retention of current and stop-out students, and career services.

The Burlington Community School District is a large school district located in Southeast Iowa. The district has two middle schools that funnel students into one high school. As a teacher for the district, I had the pleasure of instructing primarily middle school math and science courses. With changes in the student body population and teaching staff, I was able to instruct language arts and social students, when needed. The Burlington Community School District allowed me to learn my true passions in life; education and assisting students of various ages in reaching goals higher than they had set for themselves.In addition to serving as a middle school teacher, I held the position of the After School Program Administrator. Earning my principal endorsement/license in 2009, it became my responsibility to launch a district-wide after school program for at-risk students. Duties included with this position included the hiring of staff, coordination and development of curriculum, grant writing and reporting, student recruitment, transportation logistics, and budget management. Serving as an administrator for the district, I was able to quickly develop organizational leadership skills to best serve the needs of all constituents.
