My professional goals include educating highly-qualified science teachers and engaging in research that illuminates the teacher education process from preservice to in-service contexts. I also conduct research on geoscience education issues.Since 2012 I have coordinated the UNL Master of Arts with science teaching (MAst) program and administered two National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship grants as principal investigator. With these two NSF Noyce grants, UNL supported 90 preservice science teachers with full stipend support. In conjunction with these grants our research group conducted a 4-year longitudinal study of early and mid-career teachers to identify predictors of effective science teaching (see publications, conference papers, and multiple PhD dissertations). In July 2021, we received a 6-year $4.3 million NSF Noyce Master Teacher Fellows grant to support in-service science teachers' leadership and professional development for which I am the principal investigator.
