I was hired in 2000 to implement the Strategic recommendations of Dr. Andrew Nurse with respect to the Medical History Society of Nova Scotia. This position has grown exponentially over thirteen years. My work involves all Administrative tasks as well as research and writing of geographically relevant biographies of physicians in the province for profiling in historical settings such as museums, historical societies, etc. I work closely with the Chairman, Dr. Allan Marble, who has 10 books published on the history of medicine in Nova Scotia. The East Coast Reader was Atlantic Canada's only plain language newspaper for Adult learning. It was utilized in ESL classrooms throughout Nova Scotia to assist in learning English as a Second Language.My work with it included distribution of each issue, the co-creation of the East Coast Reader Consortium for Adult Literacy. I worked with its very talented Editor, an expert in plain language writing and together, we negotiated with numerous provincial and federal government departments to have public service information translated into plain language. Our largest print run was over 50,000 copies, inserted into the Chronicle Herald. Due to the influx of online technologies, the paper folded in 2012.
