• Spearhead all aspects of resident recruitment into the Pediatrics residency program, which includes: pre-season planning sessions and scheduling, review and evaluate online applications of medical students interested in pediatric training at VCU; interview applicants and prepare ranking lists for the NRMP; assess recruitment success and measure outcomes to enhance future seasons; completed large-scale redevelopment of entire process from in-person recruitment experience to an entirely virtual one with onset of COVID-19 pandemic• Assist the Program Director with numerous improvement projects aimed to enhance various aspects of the training program

• Perform all recruitment procedures for medical residents applying to fellowship training in infectious disease at CHoR/VCU • Prepare yearly as well as rotation schedules for ID fellows• Perform semiannual evaluations of the ID fellows and prepare summative reports to maintain compliance with national accreditation standards• Maintain and prepare detailed records for continued program accreditation• Develop and implement program innovations• Monitor measure program outcomes and provide feedback to clinical teaching faculty members regarding program quality

Clinical Responsibilities:• Consult on hospitalized and ambulatory patients with actual or suspected infectious diseases• Obtain detailed patient medical, surgical, and exposure histories and conduct thorough physical exams to generate broad yet accurate differential diagnoses addressing the clinical questions• Determine all appropriate diagnostic testing across the diversity of all infectious pathogens and interpret those findings• Provide appropriate antimicrobial therapy to patients and conduct necessary medical follow up, monitoring for possible adverse effects and clinical improvement• Interact with patients and their families, developing open rapport, answering questions and providing education• Manage complicated and often life-threatening infectious diseases in previously healthy as well as chronically ill and immunocompromised patients (patients with HIV infection and primary immunodeficiencies, patients receiving chemotherapy and those post solid organ and hematopoietic transplants, patients receiving biologic therapies, etc)• Manage complicated patients including those with drug-resistant bacterial, mycobacterial, fungal, hospital-acquired, and rare/exotic infections• Interact with and provide leadership to other multidisciplinary members of the healthcare team• Manage newly diagnosed and chronically infected HIV positive patients in the ambulatory clinic setting, providing both primary medical and specialty careAcademic Responsibilities:• Instruct numerous medical learners from various levels of training and disciplines via didactic and bedside educational experiences• Mentor learners on professionalism, career development, research and quality improvement projects as well as numerous other facets of their educational experience• Fulfill institutional scholarly requirements including those of research, presentations and publications (as noted below)
