I am currently a graduate student at Martin Luther University College, pursuing a Masters degree in Spiritual Care & Psychotherapy. My interests include: perinatal mental health, intimate partner violence, sexual assault recovery, addiction, trauma, disability justice, 2SLGBTQ+ issues, art therapy, the use of psychedelics in psychotherapy, and the integration of spiritual expression in a holistic approach to psychotherapy. I have excellent grades, maintain positive relationships with my colleagues and school faculty, and I am known for my passion and enthusiasm.Currently, I am also a multidisciplinary independent artist: I am a published poet with three chapbooks, an internationally experienced spoken word artist who has travelled across Canada facilitating workshops on using creative writing as a tool for recovering from trauma. as well as an arts educator and community organizer.Previously, for many years, I worked as a full-spectrum perinatal professional ("doula"), providing physical, emotional, and informational supports during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, This required me living an "on-call" lifestyle so that I could be available day or night for births and medical procedures, both in and out of a hospital setting. As a social justice activist, I served mostly marginalized communities, ensuring that individuals received quality birth support regardless of income level, citizenship, and social location. During this time, I founded Placenta Squad, Waterloo Region’s original and largest professional networking group for birth and postpartum professionals and created my own doula training program (Revolutionary Doula Training), Canada's first independent social justice-themed doula training program.I am well-known for my history of community involvement and my spirit of volunteerism: I spent several years volunteering for Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region (SASCWR) in various capacities, as well as provided doula support through Family & Children's Services Waterloo Region to minors/crown wards, individuals making an adoption/foster parenting plan and those experiencing apprehension.Curriculum Vitae available upon request.
