Hello, I am Beth Siltala. I am an artist, lover of history, and I have an MA Library and Information Studies. For the past few years, I have worked at several museums and special collection organizations handling analog and digital materials. I have also worked on several public projects, being both the website leader and assist in bringing the Viking House to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, being an editor for a Digital Edition of the 1850 Sweeney Todd penny novel, and website leader for the Teaching Press at UW-Green Bay. My goal is to contribute in the access to materials within archives to the public through technological advances or in gallery exhibits. With this, I want to tell untold stories that have been hidden away in the archives and shine light to the value of collecting records of the everyday person.

Project CoderThe String Of Pearls Digital Edition Jan 2017 - May 2018During the course of the academic semester of 2017 to May 2018, I was an coder for the String of Pearls Project, or the Sweeney Todd Project. The goal of the project was to annotate and provide access to, the complete story of the 1950 text of "The String of Pearls" by James Malcolm Rymer (1814-84). I encoded five chapters during this time: 25 ; 45 ; 60 ; 62 ; and 63. I also proofread and transcribed scanned images of my assigned chapters that were located on the crowdsourcing transcription platform, FromThePage. I did extensive research in unfamiliar phrases, poems, words, and locations that were brought up in the chapters for annotation. In April 2018 at the system-wide University of Wisconsin Symposium, I presented a one hour poster take about the project and the future goals for this project.
