Having worked in the Hospitality industry since my working life began, I have utilised the skills learnt to move forward into a new role in the Civil Service. I've always had a passion for using employment for good - I strongly believe that meaningful employment can be life-changing & everyone should have an opportunity to find work that makes them happy.I started working for HMPPS in 2022 as a Prison Officer at HMP Usk, where I completed my Apprenticeship in Custody & Detention. Due to the huge shortfall in prison staff, I also completed detached duty in HMP Bullingdon and HMP Bristol. I have recently started a non-operational role in HMP Prescoed as an Employment Advisor, supporting the Prison Employment Lead (PEL) and offering advice and guidance to serving prisoners on getting employment in the community.Prescoed is a Category D, open prison, meaning that the men are coming to their end of their sentences and can find work in the community whilst on Release on Temporary Licence (ROTL). This can then open the door to sustaining employment upon release, by creating genuine connections with employers, building the prisoner's CV's and offering training courses to upskill the men whilst serving our the rest of their sentence.My aim is to connect with employers who want to be socially accountable for their workforce by giving people who are in prison on ROTL, or leaving prison, a chance of steady employment.
