Within a few months, I was promoted to supervisor. I now had my own team. Awesome. No not awesome for everyone. The people that became my new team were quite pleasant to me until the day it was announced that a 18 year old girl fresh out of high school was their new boss. I learned very quickly that my young age and lack of formal college education may present challenges in my professional career. Being treated poorly from my new team of subordinates didn't deter me, it increased my drive. I was promoted because I worked tirelessly to understand the technology we supported and I worked harder than everyone else to learn them all.My professional career in tech lead to to the executive level of a software consulting firm partnering with IBM. What appeals to me about technology is the innovation aspect. There will always be new innovations, there will always bright minds with new ways to help people with technology. It is an industry that will always be transforming into every aspect of our lives. I am grateful for the path I took as it has prepared me for what is to come.
