As an Academic Advisor, I coordinate student acceptance into various associate degree, technical diploma, and certificate programs by assisting with all aspects of admission requirements and procedures. Conduct and present program orientations for prospects and new applicants. Advise students (caseload avg. 400-600) in various program areas with course selection, short and long-term academic planning, and goal-setting and follow through to graduation. Collaborate with deans, faculty and other departmental staff regarding program and curricular changes. Troubleshoot registration issues, evaluate transcripts and test scores, process Academic Alerts, and perform degree evaluations. Generate referrals to campus resources and services and work together to meet the needs of the students. Review procedures and collaborate with colleagues to determine best practices, and provide recommendations for improvement to streamline workflow.

In collaboration with the grant director, I implemented and developed MPTC's Upward Bound program. I developed and implemented program policies and procedures, developed and managed tutoring programs at two area high schools, advised high school students with selection of classes, test preparation and all aspects of planning and preparing for college acceptance and admittance. In addition, I provided high school administration with program updates and student progress reports, communicated regularly with parents/guardians, and high school staff to address student concerns and identify student needs, and made internal/external referrals as needed. I conducted and presented recruitment meetings at target high schools, presented at faculty staff meetings and school board meetings, taught a summer school college preparation class, planned, coordinated, and supervised student activities and field trips, and coordinated with community organizations to provide volunteer opportunities for students.
