Dr. Bethany Chase is a Training and Consultation Specialist for the Employment and Transition projects at The Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development and adjunct Lecturer at Rutgers University School of Social Work. Bethany provides training, support, consultation and education to professionals, self-advocates, and families on best practices regarding supported employment, meaningful day, and transition to adulthood. Particular areas of focus include family and parent support strategies, sexuality and sexual rights of people with disabilities, and disability policy. Notable achievements include continued state and national conference presentations, a 2022 publication in the Clinical Social Work Journal entitled, "The Unexpected Comfort of Feeling It All: A Support Group for Mothers of Autistic Adolescents Using the Lens of Ambiguous Loss," a 2020 publication in the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation entitled, "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors: Collaborating with Families to Create Employment Opportunity," a 2019 publication in the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation entitled, "Supporting Social/Sexual Challenges at the Workplace," a Boggs Center publication entitled, "Self-Advocate's Guide to Choosing a Post-Secondary Program: Charting Your Course Through a New Landscape" and a Boggs Center publication entitled, "Selecting a Supported Employment Agency: Making Choices, Becoming Empowered." Prior to her work at The Boggs Center, Bethany spent over a decade as Chair of the Transition Department at the Cooke school and institute, based in New York City. In this capacity, Bethany assisted hundreds of students with developmental disabilities and their families as they charted paths towards included, meaningful, and purposeful lives of their choosing.Bethany earned her Doctorate in Social Work from Rutgers University. She received her master’s degree from Columbia School of Social Work with a focus on Health, Mental Health, and Disabilities. She earned her bachelor’s Degree in Music, with a major in Music Therapy, from Berklee College of Music.
