Within the Histopathology Department My main duties and responsibilities are:- To receive requests/specimens and ensure integrity- Redirect and assist with delivery of specimens to laboratories as appropriate- Perform pre-analytical preparation of samples according to Protocols- Enter patient/specimen data into pathology computer systems where appropriate- Photograph specimens according to protocol and under appropriate supervision- Assist the Pathologist/BMS during dissection as appropriate- File and retrieve biological material where appropriate- Dispose of biological materials and waste safely - Perform basic Laboratory procedures under appropriate supervision to include embedding of surgical resection specimens not requiring orientation into paraffin wax according to protocol and sectioning paraffin blocks of surgical resection material according to protocol- Assist with the cleaning and decontamination of laboratory equipment and benches- Assist with maintenance, safety checks, operation and re-filling of laboratory equipment- Prepare solutions and reagents as required following Protocols- Required to take receipt of monthly deliveries of alcohols and solvents, including checking and signing the order, moving the large containers into the flammable store of laboratory, and ensuring their safe storage

- Customer service: advise customers on products, serve them on the till points and deal with refunds and complaints as well as compliments- Team coach: train new employees and make sure current members of staff are up to date with training- Manage and help organise stockroom- Replenishing stock and tidying the shop floor

- Created a database and inputted information using both paper and computer systems- Coordinated carrying out the audit with another team member - Generated reports using the audited database data

Voluntary PositionWorking in the histology lab I:-Implemented general laboratory procedures such as following risk assessments, maintaining health and safety and cleaning the laboratory -Prepared histological sample slides via processing, embedding, cutting, staining and mounting-Carried out both general staining techniques, such as H and E stains, and more specific immunohistochemistry staining
