This was a job that I got in the summer of my second year at University. I worked at a School for children who could not attend mainstream education due to behavioral disabilities (such as ADHD or autism). During my time here, I also planned out citizenship lessons for years 7 – 11 using my organizational skills and my knowledge in the subject to outline lessons for the students particular at GCSE level. The key focus of this job was learning to adapt as it was unlike anything I had done before, and I would have to deal with people who did not always react as you would expect. Persistence in this job was key as it was the way we kept lessons on track. I then came back to this Job once I had graduated University and obtained my degree. At this stage I was a full Student mentor and spent my days teaching the students rather than taking on a planning role. The key skill this job taught me, and continues to teach me is versatility. Every day brings a new challenge and it has educated me in many ways, for example it has enabled me to learn to work with fun and enthusiasm whilst still maintaining the professional edge that is demanded in such a career.

● This was job that I obtained was whilst at University. It involved being sent to various venues and completing catering roles. A lot of my time with this company was spent on the bar both with and without cash. I have also been trained in plate waiting as well as a majority of other catering roles, such as silver service etc. Venues I have worked at include Wembley Arena, Newmarket Racecourse and Duxford. What interested me further about this was the way the office worked and how they allocated staff which is something that I wanted to look at progressing into. The role meant I had to be easily adaptable knowing what was appropriate in each situation and develop my skills in reading a room.

● This was a job I started when I first enrolled at the University of Northampton and it enabled me to adapt my customer service skills to a more business-like setting as well as having to transfer my face to face interaction to that done over the telephone. This role also meant that I had a lot of admin work given to me, transferring calls, making bookings and helping with customer enquiries was part of my every day job. This job also put me into a professional setting where I had not experienced before. It meant that I was made aware of professionalism not only in my mannerisms but also in my appearance and how I was perceived by customers and colleagues in a working environment.

● This role meant that I was responsible for collecting a customer's shopping, which they had ordered online. This required me to be able to be aware of what I was doing and make sensible substitutions if needs be. Although it is not a customer service role we would be in constant contact with other members of the public and would occasionally be working on the shop floor helping out other departments. I also spent a lot of time on the checkouts and working with other members of staff. The job required me to work with varying people as well as in various environments. The job also required me to be up in the early hours of the morning meaning I am able to be professional and well suited to a role no matter what the time is. This job is the one I kept right the way though until I left to go to university.
